Summary:
This key position will be responsible for overall advertising strategy and implementation for a wide range of performance genres ranging from classical, world, jazz, pop music and dance to urban shows and touring Broadway productions. The broad scope of the position includes developing goals, strategies, and implementation tactics to execute a comprehensive and cohesive marketing campaign for subscriptions and single ticket sales. Working closely with the Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations, and other senior staff, the Director of Marketing and Public Relations will help create and execute an overall image and branding campaign for Kimmel Center, Inc.
The Director of Marketing and Public Relations will oversee the press and media relations strategies, supervise the media relations team and the Community Relations activities in support of the organization’s mission.
Essential Functions, Marketing:
- Develop long term strategy for positioning the Kimmel Center both locally and nationally.
- Devise subscription campaign strategy and creative concept; explore special offers and campaign pitches in liaison with VP Marketing and Public Relations, VP Programming and marketing team.
- Strategize single ticket sales campaigns; determine target markets for each Kimmel Center Presents and Broadway offering; manage execution of all campaign advertising elements.
- Liaison with Website Manager to develop and implement website marketing and sales strategies.
- Oversee the placement of all media buys, manage flow of campaign including print, broadcast and social media .
- Solicit media partners and manage media partner relationships.
- Oversees KCP and Broadway series telemarketing campaigns; facilitates the creation of campaign materials for callers; provides telemarketing manager with incentives for callers.
- Liaison with Ticket Philadelphia on sales policies and customer service issues.
- Maintain overall responsibility for expense budget management, updating and revising projections as necessary; monitor daily income daily for Kimmel Center events, and revise media plan and expense budget accordingly.
- Conduct regular analysis of ticket sales, including sales trends, pricing, and customer buying patterns.
- Work with VP Marketing and Public Relations on market research activity and communicate results to all key constituents.
- Develop team of marketing professionals with a client-services focus mindful of the need for individual professional development.
- Establish effective departmental wide organizational structures and procedures departmentally, as well as functional processes that can be utilized throughout the company.
- Assist with media strategy and placement for facility sales in liaison with the Director, Venue Sales and Client Management.
Essential Functions, Public Relations
Institutional Communications
- Facilitate long term strategic institutional positioning, both locally and nationally, in collaboration with VP, Marketing and PR, CEO, COO and senior staff.
- Develop and execute press strategies to gain local, national and international attention for the institution. Expand relationships with national and international media.
- Act as spokesperson for Kimmel Center, Inc., handling all media requests for institutional information, and determining appropriate internal spokespersons for interviews.
- Develop press strategies, press releases and story ideas to promote the Kimmel Center’s education and community outreach programs as well as institutional news and events, season programming announcements, board appointments and staff news.
- Oversee development and expansion of press contact lists and maintain excellent relationships with the media.
- Conduct press and VIP tours and liaison with Manager of Volunteer Services to accommodate special tour requests.
- Liaison with Resident Company public relations directors, Facility Sales, and operations and production staff on press and union labor issues.
- Liaison with major tourism and hospitality organizations, as well as other regional institutions to pursue shared public relations opportunities.
- Increase contact and dialogue leading to expanded editorial exposure in ethnic media outlets in the region.
- Plan and execute annual press conference and media events as warranted.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 6 –8 years of marketing, sales and promotions experience, demonstrating an increasing level of responsibility and a positive track record in sales preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, arts management (or related disciplines) or significant industry experience required.
- Ability to think strategically and to gauge a rapidly changing marketplace.
- Familiarity with new media and technologies, including e-marketing, podcasts, social media vehicles and blogging.
- Knowledge of jazz, classical, world and pop music industries and trends, a plus.
- Ability to direct, supervise and evaluate contributions of others.
- Creative thinking, team players, highly developed leadership skills.
