Summary:
Reporting to the Festival Executive Director and working closely with the Kimmel Center’s Managing Director of Development, the Development Manager creates and implements the overall funding strategy for PIFA, including foundation grants, corporate gifts and sponsorships, individual giving and government grants. An emphasis is placed upon corporate sponsorships and foundation grants. In collaboration with the Festival Executive Director and the Kimmel Managing Director of Development goals will be established annually. The Manager identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards these donors, contributing to the success of the overall development efforts of PIFA. The Manager will work collaboratively with the Kimmel Center Development staff in order to ensure a non-competitive fundraising environment. The Manager’s portfolio will consist of prospects and donors up to the $250,000 level.
Essential Functions:
In coordination with the PIFA Executive Director and Managing Director, Development and within the appropriate giving levels, the PIFA Development Manager:
- Initiates and coordinates all aspects of fundraising efforts with corporations, including providing the Manager, Development Communications with direction in creating materials and working with Development and Marketing/Communications staff to develop benefits.
- With support from the Manager, Development Communications and the Manager, Prospect Research, identifies funding sources from the corporate and foundation sectors.
- Creates sponsorship packages that maximize support for PIFA.
- Competes and/or writes all necessary grant applications.
- Maintains full awareness of government funding possibilities and, working with the Kimmel Manager Director of Development, completes applications.
- Works collaboratively with PIFA external partners to maximize exposure for sponsors and donors.
- Monitors and communicates to the appropriate departments the status of foundation relationships and funding opportunities.
- Coordinates with the Manager, Development Services on all benefit fulfillment process implementation.
- Maintains accurate tracking of all sponsorships, gifts and pledges.
- Develops and monitors expense budget and expense tracking protocols.
- Accurately tracks all donor relationships, proposals and contacts as well as prospects in the Tessitura constituent database.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required. BS or BA in marketing, communications or related field desired.
- Minimum five years of effective experience in fundraising in a nonprofit environment with a measurable track record.
- Some proposal writing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of and network with Philadelphia area corporate and foundation communities preferred.
- Modest out of town travel as needed.
- Excellent speaking and writing skills.
- Must be available to work some nights/weekend for performances and events.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and with varied personalities across organizations, as well as in team settings.
- Flexibility and patience a must, along with excellent internal communication skills, reflecting a customer-service orientation.
- Hours can be variable, with some evening and weekend work required.
- Limited travel required
- Must be able to work outdoors during festival period.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office required; Tessitura experience desired.
